The Ugly American Tourist? As Prevalent as Bigfoot.

I’ve been doing a lot of traveling recently (London, Paris, Aachen, Prague, DC, and the Outer Banks just in the last 4 weeks) and I’ve unfortunately run into some really obnoxious people along the way.  Now, some of that is to be expected, because ALL tourists are annoying, myself included.  Tourists get lost, move slowly, get in […]

Ingratitude for the Greatest Generation

As the another anniversary of D-Day came and went, I was reminded again of the courage and sacrifice of those who fought in WWII, including my grandfather, who fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  The enormity of their commitments never really sunk in, though, until I visited the beaches of Normandy last year.  Standing […]

Travel Blogging: Bosnia and Herzegovina

On our recent visit to Croatia, my husband and I made a side trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina to visit the Catholic pilgrimage town of Medugorje.  We planned to visit the city of Mostar, too, but an unfortunate road closure and bad weather made that impracticable.  The actual town isn’t much to see - mostly religious […]

Travel Blogging: Croatia

My husband and I had a delightful dinner on the rue des Bouchers, which somehow always manages to live up to the hype. If you like history, culture, beer, food, pets, […]

Travel Blogging: London

Spent last weekend in London with friends, and had a blast. We went to see Wicked, which was witty, intelligent, and fantastically executed. I would have enjoyed it much more, though, if it hadn’t included numerous Holocaust allusions. I just can’t enjoy the comedic song-and-dance routine of a character who’s cast as a Hitler.

I also […]

International Herald Tribune Unknowingly Advertises the Gore Effect

The IHT ran a story Monday encouraging enthusiasts to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro before it’s destroyed by the global warming boogieman.
Says the author:
I had wanted to climb to the roof of Africa before climate change erased its ice fields and the romance of its iconic Snows of Kilimanjaro image.
He takes a momentary turn away from alarmism […]
